Macular and Retinal Diseases
Many problems can affect the portion of the eye called the macula or retina. This is a fine layer of nerve cells that line the back of the eye. Systemic, or body, conditions can affect the retina including diabetes or high blood pressure. If undetected or untreated, these can result in permanent vision loss.
Macular degeneration is vision-threatening disease of the back lining of the eye, or retina. Macular degeneration has several stages from an early, dry form to a wet, late form that is detected by complete eye examinations and advanced computerized imaging and testing offered at the Foley Eye clinic.
